I Step forward because: Olivia's story

Our sweet Olivia is the heart of our world. She is kind, resilient, and full of joy—but she also faces challenges that no child should have to endure. Olivia lives with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and polycystic kidney disease (PKD), two rare genetic disorders that bring countless medical challenges. TSC causes tubers to grow in various organs, including the brain, heart, kidneys, and skin, while PKD leads to cysts in the kidneys, which can cause complications over time.

Since her diagnosis, Olivia has faced more doctors’ appointments, tests, and treatments than we ever imagined. Some days are tough, but Olivia continues to shine with incredible strength. As a family, we are committed to giving her the best possible future—and that’s why we’re walking in the Step Forward to Cure TSC Walk on April 12.

How You Can Help:

There’s still time to register, donate, or form a team to support this cause. Every dollar raised helps fund vital research, treatments, and resources for families like ours.

We walk for Olivia. We walk for hope. And with your help, we walk toward a cure.

🤍 Join us in making a difference! 🤍

WHY WE WALK

Over the past 22 years, the TSC community—along with volunteers, corporate partners, and advocates—has raised more than $23.2 million, funding critical research and educational programs that improve the lives of those affected by TSC. This year, we are excited to host 19 in-person walks across the nation, bringing together people of all ages and abilities to raise awareness for TSC. These in-person events are supported by virtual participants who unite across the country, sharing their stories, raising funds, and participating from wherever they are. Participants wear event shirts, celebrate milestones, and make meaningful connections with others who understand the challenges and triumphs of living with TSC.

Through Step Forward to Cure TSC, we are working toward a world where TSC no longer impacts the lives of individuals and families. The TSC Alliance is committed to providing resources, support, and funding for vital research that will lead to better treatments, improved outcomes, and ultimately a cure. Our community is driven by the belief that together, we can achieve a brighter future for everyone impacted by TSC.

Step Forward to Cure TSC is the largest community event featuring both in-person and virtual walks, runs, and rides, all dedicated to advancing the fight for a cure for tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in multiple organs, primarily the brain, eyes, heart, kidneys, skin, and lungs. Nearly one million people worldwide live with TSC, including approximately 50,000 in the United States. While some individuals with TSC experience few symptoms, others require ongoing support. The TSC journey is unique for each person and family, but understanding the condition offers hope, strength, and empowerment for everyone affected.

"Fifty years ago, when we started the TSC Alliance, I dreamed about physician awareness and research. I thought if we only could find the families and unite to show the need, we'd secure awareness, funding, and interest from the medical community. Then research would follow and TSC would be a treatable disease, not an obscurity. I hoped for a genetic prenatal test and faster diagnosis by neurologists and pediatricians. Today because of TSC research, all of that an so much more is happening."

- Susan McBrine, TSC Alliance Founding Mom

"The TSC Alliance is a well-run organization that provides so much home, information, and inspiration for individuals and families batting this unique rare disease."
